Opala is hiring a Staff Data Engineer with a strong background in various databases, processes, and tools to join our team. In this remote role, you will provide technical leadership for our data team as well as analyze, design, develop, deploy, and maintain our data-hub and associated integrations.

Responsibilities:
- Works with product and business to outline design specifications, development schedules and refine user-stories to efficiently develop solutions.
- Provides technical leadership and guidance, designing templates, code patterns and data patterns for team.
- Build end-to-end ETL pipelines populating data for various data-marts, warehouses, exports.
- Performs data analysis and development tasks to support ELT/ETL data movement, database development.
- Builds complex analytic visualizations around patient, payer, and provider data sets.
- Supports all SDLC activities in accordance with industry best practices.
- Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity.
- Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for software operating systems and application issues.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
- Review and analyze existing data pipelines, and make recommendations on improvement, maintenance, or other factors to improve the system.
Competencies:
- 10+ years’ relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 5+ years building ETL/ELT processes.
- 5+ years developing with relational and non-relational databases, such as Databricks, Postgres, SQL Server, Dynamodb, Oracle, Mongo DB
- 5+ years developing in a structured language (Python, Java, C#, etc..)
- 3+ years developing in Databricks (Pyspark/Databricks SQL)
- Experience with the ingestion and egestion of data in a variety of formats including: CSV, JSON, XML and HL7.
- Advanced Knowledge of data structures, queries in both relational and no-relational dbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in integration projects with healthcare-specific standards (HL7, CCD, C-CDA, X12, FHIR, etc.)
- Experience Azure storage/data platforms and cloud computing in Azure.
Benefits:
- The Seattle base salary range for this full-time position is $163-$188k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, EAP, short-term and long-term disability, 16 days PTO, 8 paid holidays, fully paid holiday closure, parental and family medical leave, 401k, stock options and annual bonuses and salary increases based on merit.
