Platform Engineer
Opala builds secure, cloud-native data solutions that help payers and providers improve care through better data. Our products power real-time clinical data pipelines, interoperability compliance, and analytics tooling—all underpinned by a strong foundation in platform security and scalability.
We’re hiring a Platform Engineer to support our growing infrastructure and developer platform. In this role, you’ll focus on secure automation, permissions and identity management, and scalable services that empower development teams to move quickly and safely. This is a remote position.
You'll have a unique opportunity to learn from highly experienced and skilled professionals with decades of combined experience. The techniques and approaches you'll learn here will propel you forward into the next generation of Platform Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Automate infrastructure and deployments for cloud-native workloads, including AWS Lambda and Azure Functions
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with secure artifact handling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Artifactory, Nexus, or AWS CodeArtifact)
- Manage access controls and permission structures in Databricks
- Implement infrastructure as code and policy as code using Terraform and related tooling
- Enforce DevSecOps practices, including secrets management and compliance automation
- Contribute to zero trust architecture across Opala’s platform
- 2+ years in Platform, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering roles
- Strong experience with AWS and/or Azure (especially serverless)
- Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python)
- Experience managing identity and access in cloud environments and tools like Databricks
- Proficiency with Terraform and modern CI/CD tools
- Familiarity with binary artifact management systems (e.g., Artifactory, Nexus, CodeArtifact)
- Familiarity with ITSM and ITIL
- Experience securing cloud workloads in compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar frameworks
- Knowledge of zero trust principles and implementation
- Experience in healthcare IT
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- Experience with SBOM generation, dependency scanning, or secret detection tools
- The Seattle base salary range for this full-time position is $116k-$136k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
